I think that's definitely more plausible than the "this is just a reminder I'm writing to myself" explanation, which would require the text to be written mirrored for that to be true.
And he couldn't have been trying to curry favor with the lord, either, or he would have written it on the roof of his car so it would be pointed at heaven (the sky).
He must be in a home-based business that he is trying to stir up some buzz about. It's a whisper campaign, like in The Muppets Take Manhattan, without any whispering.
